Beginner’s Crops

I tell Grant, my husband, that I could be a professional radish grower. We grow radishes every year in our spring and fall garden, and they grow like gangbusters. We’ve found all sorts of different ways to eat radishes around our house because there are a few weeks every year when we have them coming out of our ears. I always recommend that new and old gardeners grow radishes because they are nearly impossible to screw up – they rarely succumb to pests or diseases, and they require very little upkeep. Even in years when nothing seems to go as planned in the garden, I can always count on my radishes!
What’s your favorite “dummy-proof” crop to grow?

Green beans. Typically, I just give up on harvesting them after a while.

Lettuce & Beans. Nothing simpler than direct sowing seed into ground then letting nature do it’s thing.

OK, I know this is an old post but for some reason I just got around to reading it (probably due to the fact that i am back in the united states- land of the fast internet). Have you ever roasted radishes in the oven? They are fantastic. I like to make roasted root veggies. Cut up carrots, radishes, turnips, potatoes and beets and toss with a little oil and spices and roast in the oven…. mmmm.
