I don’t like waste. So wasting food and wasting money in the process does not sit well with me. Unfortunately, with buying seasonally, organic and local (when available) produce in bulk to keep costs down like we do, we inevitably have some veggies go bad before we use them. Sometimes it is the result of poor planning, but many times it is simply because we “lose” them in the refrigerator because they hide.
Regardless of the reason your celery goes bad, fear not! And please don’t just get rid of it. Follow these simple steps to revive gross looking celery, enjoy your healthy snack, and save money along the way.
Step 1 – Pat yourself on the back for being up to the challenge to “save limpy” and not just throw out (gasp!) or compost the sad looking celery
Step 2 – Cut off the base of the celery stalk (and save for step 5)
Step 4 – Store in refrigerator or on counter for 1-2 days or until firm, eat and enjoy
Step 5 – Use the base as a flower stamp for your kiddos or your inner Van Gogh
